Anor Londo is a fictional city in the action RPG game series Dark Souls 1. It is the capital of the kingdom of Lordran and the former seat of the power of the royal deities of the game’s world. Anor Londo distinguishes itself from the many game levels of Dark Souls 1 as being bright, intricate, and massive in its scale. Its design tells the very interesting story about the game’s lore and is a very visually gorgeous display of Gothic architecture.

Why choose the Gothic Architectural Style?
Throughout history, the grandeur of Gothic Architecture was always used to showcase power, wealth and influence. The association of the Gothic style with religious structures indicates the cultural power of the Catholic church in the past, which is extended to the monarchs and lords that fund the construction of these structures of grandeur.
The Milan Cathedral’s construction, the inspiration behind Anor Londo, was initiated by Duke Gian Galeazzo Visconti, the first Duke of Milan, to cement his significance as ruler and developer of the city of Milan, as well as the power of the Archbishop of Milan.
It is no surprise that Anor Londo follows the same example. The city of Anor Londo was built to emphasize the power of Gwyn, Lord of Cinder. It is fitting that the Gothic style is used to showcase the power of a deified ruler.
